Are we being unfair? Kentucky is undefeated with two wins over Power Five programs. On that front, they should be in the same tier as the other undefeated teams in this league. However, they just haven’t shown enough yet to belong there.

UK has squeaked by each of its last three foes. Two of them are in the next to last tier of our SEC Power Rankings, and one of them is an FCS program in the Chattanooga Mocs. Mark Stoops’ team just keeps on doing enough to get by, and as a result, we can’t put them in the top tier yet. One impressive win could do that, though.

What’s clear is that Stoops has established enough of a culture in Lexington, Ky. that these kids expect to win. If not for struggling with an FCS team, we’d still have them in that top tier for now, but they just don’t belong there until they prove that a bit more. Heck, they’re giving Tennessee football fans hope now about potentially beating them in November.

Those chances come this month. Kentucky hosts LSU and visits Georgia this month. That’s part of a three-game stand to test them that starts this week, as they get set to host the next team in our SEC Power Rankings in the same tier as them.
