Kicking

Chase McGrath shanked a 47-yard field goal, his only attempt of the night. However, McGrath has made his other three attempts on the year, and two of them were beyond 40. Meanwhile, he still hasn’t missed an extra point, so he’ll be fine.

On the other side, Paxton Brooks had an abysmal first half against Florida. However, he settled down in the second half and had one punt pin the Gators inside the 20 while another one sailed 61 yards. He was rusty after missing the Tennessee Tech game. Last week was largely a fluke. Tennessee football should still have a major kicking advantage going forward.

Pass rush

They only had one sack last week, but the Vols were facing a spread offense that is often set on quick released. Meanwhile, Emory Jone is a dynamic athlete out in open space, and he was able to evade lots of potential sacks. Don’t sleep on the fact that the Vols were still able to generate lots of pressure off the edges, even if the rush defense struggled.

Taking that into account, they should be much better when they aren’t facing such an elite athlete at the position. Tyler Baron was the highest-graded player on the team by PFF this past weekend, and as Byron Young gets more and more settled in, this unit will only get better.
