Two desperate teams enter this game. Both Tennessee football and the Missouri Tigers have three winnable games after this, maybe even likely wins, but they also both have four likely losses after this as well. That makes this game crucial in terms of trying to reach bowl eligibility.

Mizzou comes into this game having lost to heartbreakers on the road, to Kentucky and the Boston College Eagles. To be fair to them, both teams are undefeated, and they lost both by only a touchdown. Still, they’re 2-2, and this was supposed to be their breakout year under Eliah Drinkwitz, so things are starting to get urgent for them.

The Vols’ key loss that makes this game crucial was at home against the Pittsburgh Panthers. That one was also by a touchdown. As Josh Heupel continues to try to rebuild the program, they head into Memorial Stadium at Faurot Field trying to rebound from a horrendous second half in a 38-14 loss at Florida.

Prediction

There’s a lot more pressure on Mizzou than the Vols. At the same time, we don’t know how healthy UT will be at quarterback. Their only advantage is the rushing attack, but all the little things favor the Tigers.

As a result, Mizzou wins this game. They’ll dictate the flow of the game, which means a lot of passing, and while UT runs the ball a lot, they utilize tempo, so there will be lots of scoring on Saturday. Take the Tigers to win and cover in a shootout, but Tennessee football fans shouldn’t worry. They’re getting better and will have chances at another upset down the road.
