Tennessee football: Week 5 SEC and top 25 picks and bets

Just when everybody was ready to write off Ed Orgeron, LSU dominates the Central Michigan Chippewas and then scores a huge SEC win over Mississippi State. Yes, the loss to the UCLA Bruins was bad, but they got MSU at their best, and that’s an MSU team that beat the N.C. State Wolfpack team that beat Clemson and should’ve been undefeated going into that game.
On the other side, the Auburn Tigers seemed to hit a bit of reality last week after struggling with the Georgia State Panthers. Tennessee football knows how dangerous GSU is with Shawn Elliott, but with a first-year head coach in Bryan Harsin, Auburn was even more vulnerable.
Auburn is still a good team, though, as they dropped 60 points in their first two games and then came within a touchdown of the Penn State Nittany Lions. Last week’s scare appears to have been just a fluke right now.
Prediction
This is a game that could go either way, but LSU is playing with a lot more urgency right now to prove that Orgeron deserves to stay on the job. That’ll be enough for us to say they win this game. Auburn’s offense has hit reality recently, which is why the game hits the under, but LSU wins and covers at Tiger Stadium.
LSU: 27 Auburn: 20 (LSU -3.5; Under 55.5)
