Tennessee football: Five Vols to watch for vs. South Carolina
5’11” 220 pounds; Hometown: Hartsville, S.C.
South Carolina isn’t the worst team ever at stopping they run. They allow 144.2 yards on the ground a game, which is just below average. However, their rush defense efficiency is pretty bad, as they allow between four and four and a half yards a carry. Oh, and they’ve allowed a 100-yard rusher in each of their last two games.
We know how dominant Tennessee football’s rush offense has been, and Hendon Hooker and Tiyon Evans have been the catalyst for it. As a result, Josh Heupel will once again likely use them to take control of this matchup, which won’t surprise anybody.
Evans had 15 carries for 156 yards and three touchdowns last week, and for the year, he has 57 carries for 363 yards (6.4 yards per carry) and five touchdowns. He also has four catches for 74 yards and another touchdown. This all comes despite missing one game.
No offensive skill player has been a more reliable weapon than Evans. Now, he’s about to face the school he committed to Tennessee football over. This is a game where he’ll truly want to prove himself, and that goes beyond just the matchup advantage that will make him the most important player on the field Saturday.
