Tennessee football: Video highlights from Vols’ 45-20 win vs. South Carolina
It was an onslaught in the first quarter. For the second straight week, Josh Heupel’s offense was able to fill up the early part of a game with highlights, as Tennessee football beat the South Carolina Gamecocks 45-20.
All of that dominance came thanks to a 28-0 first quarter start, which followed a 28-3 first quarter start against the Missouri Tigers last week, a game the Vols won 62-24. That quarter alone in this game came with not just four offensive touchdowns but also two forced turnovers by the defense, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Given the fact that South Carolina was a horrendous first quarter team already, all the seeds were laid for something like this to happen in this game. However, Rocky Top exceeded expectations, and that’s why they were able to pull away with a comfortable victory. Let’s take a look at the highlights from Tennessee football’s win, which largely came in the first.
Hendon Hooker 3-yard touchdown pass to Jalin Hyatt
Hendon Hooker 39-yard touchdown pass to JaVonta Payton
Jaylen McCollough end zone interception
Hendon Hooker 11-yard touchdown run
Hendon Hooker 21-yard touchdown pass to Velus Jones Jr.
Tiyon Evans 45-yard touchdown run
There were a few highlights we weren’t able to pull. One of them was Aaron Beasley’s fumble recovery in the first quarter off of a botched snap, which set up Hooker’s touchdown pass to Velus Jones Jr. that truly broke the game open.
Another big highlight was in the second half. South Carolina was fighting back and made it a close game, but Len’Neth Whitehead capped off a six-play 41-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run to make sure Rocky Top stayed in control in the fourth quarter.
Overall, there were plenty of highlights to make this a fun day for Tennessee football fans. The Vols pulled away with a solid victory, and given the offensive focus of the Ole Miss Rebels and former UT head coach Lane Kiffin, who will be their opponent next week, you can expect lots more highlights to be headed to Rocky Top.
