Tennessee football up again in Week 6 SEC Power Rankings
No more transitive wins can be applied in our SEC Power Rankings. The biggest upset of the year this past Saturday wrecked all circular logic, and it forced us to reshuffle everything. However, as that happened, Tennessee football continued blowing out other league opponents to continue climbing these standings.
This week’s rankings include a clear-cut No. 1, No. 2 and No. 14. There is also a clear-cut tier that involves the No. 12 and No. 13 teams, although you could switch them around. After that, every single team has a case to be somewhere else. As we get set to dive into these rankings, we’re forced to take recency into account even more than we usually do.
Record, strength of schedule and margin of victory are all big deals too, and we now can’t overreact to one head-to-head matchup. Taking all that into account, see where Tennessee football and the other 13 teams stand in our SEC Power Rankings following Week 6 of 2021.
Last week: Lost to Florida Gators 42-0
To nobody’s surprise, the Vanderbilt Commodores are still Vanderbilt. After a thrilling 30-28 win over the UConn Huskies last week, Clark Lea’s team returned to SEC play and got hit with a dose of reality. Vandy got blown out by the Florida Gators 42-0 and is once again the only team in the league currently under .500 right now.
It’s pretty obvious, taking that into account, that they belong at the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings. We have them listed as a sure loss for Tennessee football at the end of the year right now, as they have a ton of issues to work on.
However, the ‘Dores will have a shot at some upsets in the next few weeks. They visit a .500 South Carolina Gamecocks team next week and then host a vulnerable Mississippi State Bulldogs team, so there’s a chance at them looking respectable. After both those games, they have another chance with a home game against the next team in these rankings.
