Last week: Defeated Alabama Crimson Tide 41-38

Just as we all had Texas A&M written off, they pull off the most impressive win of the year of any SEC team. Now we have no idea what to make of Jimbo Fisher’s kids. After all, their three Power Five games before this were a hideous 10-7 victory over the Colorado Buffaloes and then two losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State.

This wasn’t the team that was supposed to beat Alabama, and this wasn’t supposed to be the situation in which Nick Saban would lose his first game to one of his former assistants. However, it happened, and it may have salvaged Texas A&M’s season.

On a more practical level, Arkansas just lost to Ole Miss, and Mississippi State still has an SEC loss. Both are likely to lost at least two more games each, and they still have to play each other and Alabama. If that happens and Alabama can slip up in one more place, don’t write off A&M when it comes to a playoff spot just yet.

To be fair, Tennessee football controls its own destiny in the East, but nobody is giving them a chance. Still, A&M is the better team, and its next two games are a trip to Mizzou and a home game against South Carolina. Then comes a bye before a winnable home game against Auburn. Ole Miss is the only ranked team left on the schedule, so watch out for what these guys do.
