While I nailed my predictions for Tennessee football last week, the Oklahoma Sooners benching quarterback Spencer Rattler and Penn State Nittany Lions Sean Clifford getting hurt cost me two moneyline upset picks and two more wins against the spread. A last-second touchdown by the Arkansas Razorbacks cost me another spread pick. That’s why I was underwater once again.

Week 6 performances

  • Outright: 5-4
  • Moneyline: 5-4; Lost $306 if $100 bet on every game (-34%)
  • Gambling record: 10-8 (4-5 against the spread; 6-3 over/under)

There is good news, though. My gambling picks are still at 54.2 percent on the year, just above the 52 percent necessary to make a profit, and while my moneyline picks are cratering, I’m still above water there too thanks to how strong I was in the early weeks, nailing almost every upset. All these are based on lines from the WynnBET betting odds.

2021 overall performances

  • Outright: 56-18
  • Moneyline: 38-17; +$111 profit if $100 bet on every game (+2%)
  • Gambling record: 69-59-2 (37-28 against the spread; 32-31-2 over/under)

Okay, so now it’s time to rebound. All 14 SEC teams are playing this week, and they all have SEC games, making for seven games for us to pick. There’s also one non-conference top 25 game, so we have eight games to pick overall. As usual, we start with the worst game here and end with Tennessee football. Here are our SEC and top 25 picks and bets for Week 7 of 2021.

887. Columbia, S.C.. Saturday, Oct. 16. 3-3 (0-3). 850. 2-4 (0-2). SEC Network. 4 p.m. ET

Gambling odds:

  • Line: South Carolina -18.5
  • Over/Under: 50.5
  • Moneyline: South Carolina -1100; Vanderbilt +700

Coming off their 45-20 loss to Tennessee football, the South Carolina Gamecocks need to prove they can beat a Power Five team. After all, they looked hideous against the Troy Trojans and the East Carolina Pirates, their only two wins against FBS schools. There’s an outside shot at a bowl Shane Beamer’s first year, but they have to win all of the games they should win.

This seems like one of those games. The Vanderbilt Commodores were blown out by the Florida Gators last week 42-0, but Clark Lea would like at least one SEC win his first year on the job. Could he do it at Williams-Brice Stadium against a mediocre South Carolina team?

Predction

My favorite play here is the under. South Carolina hasn’t scored more than 23 points against an FBS school. Also, the Gamecocks struggle early in games. They fought hard last week against Tennessee football but only after falling behind 28-0 in the first. As a result, they’ll beat Vandy, but it won’t happen until the second half. so they won’t cover either. This game will be ugly.

South Carolina: 27 Vanderbilt: 17 (Vanderbilt +18.5; Under 50.5)
