Tennessee football: Photo gallery in Vols’ 31-26 loss to Ole Miss
There was no shortage of standout moments for Tennessee football as the Vols lost a heartbreaker to the Ole Miss Rebels Saturday night. UT had multiple chances to win the game, but miscues and an inability to stop Matt Corral when he ran the ball proved costly in the end. You could also bring up injuries, but both teams suffered through those.
Amidst all of that, though, the main story from the game was what happened later. The Vols, trailing 31-26, were stopped on a 4th and 24 play. Hendon Hooker hit Jacob Warren for a 23-yard gain. It looked like a 24-yard gain, but the refs spotted him short, and their wasn’t enough evidence to overturn the call.
Because of that, Vol fans threw debris out onto the field, and the game was delayed for more than 15 minutes. As we get set to take a look at some of the standout photos from Tennessee football’s loss, this gallery shows some of those moments.
Obviously, there’s no place for ever throwing things onto the field. However, it was even worse for Vol fans in this game. After all, when they were stopped on that fourth down play, there were over 50 seconds left, and they had all three timeouts, so they had the chance to get the ball back and win. Their aggression was risking that.
Play resumed, to be fair, and they got the ball back and then messed up a chance to win in the end. So it didn’t matter outside of the fact that it became the biggest story of the game, which was unfortunate because there would have been some calls to question had that not been the thing that everybody will now talk about.
At the end of the day, Tennessee football still had chances to win, and now they are 4-3. Still, Lane Kiffin’s return to Rocky Top was met with a lot of fun. Despite the loss, there are plenty of reasons to be encouraged about Josh Heupel’s Vols going forward, and this wild night made that clear.
