4. Miscues made for an ugly game.

It wasn’t just Tennessee football fans causing issues. This was an ugly game across the board, and honestly, both sides were responsible for it. The ugliness didn’t stop the game from being wild in somewhat of a fun way, but it did make it wild and fun in an unexpected way.

UT started it off with Velus Jones Jr. muffing a punt. The Vols hadn’t had a turnover in four weeks, and Jones’ muff was on the first punt of the game. That set up Ole Miss’ first touchdown. Don’t worry, Ole Miss had their own miscues.

The Rebels’ first drive was killed because of penalties, and they had 10 penalties for 75 yards. To be fair, the Vols had six penalties for 48 yards, so their own issues returned when it came to flags. Meanwhile, both teams missed field goals.

Simply put, this game was ugly all the way around, and it ended in ugly fashion with Milton making a play that just can’t be explained. That was part of the reason the offenses didn’t score the way we all expected them too. However, it’s also the result of another major issue that took place in the game, which we’ll get to next.
