What a wild weekend it was in the SEC! Tennessee football had its own drama with the way its game ended and how fans reacted late in the fourth quarter. However, there was another game between the final two undefeated teams heading into Saturday, and two ranked teams lost to unranked three-loss teams, and a head coach was fired, effective at the end of the year.

Just past the halfway point of the regular season, the chaos in this league is already reaching boiling point, and that’s going to be reflected in our SEC Power Rankings. One division is all but locked up, but another division has four teams legitimately in the race to win it, two of whom control their own destiny.

There are still two top five teams and six top 25 teams. More than ever, we have to weigh recency, and margin of victory is coming into play too. Taking all of that into account, let’s go ahead and see where everybody stands, including Tennessee football, in our SEC Power Rankings following Week 7 of the 2021 season.

Last week: Lost to South Carolina Gamecocks 21-20

Well, the good news is that Clark Lea’s team has some competitive fight in it. A week after getting blown out 42-0 by the Florida Gators, the Vanderbilt Commodores nearly pulled off a huge upset win over the South Carolina Gamecocks. The bad news, however, is they blew one of maybe two shots left at a win the rest of the year.

Vandy had this game. They showed their resolve coming back from being down 14-3 to score 17 straight unanswered points. South Carolina then brought in Zeb Noland at quarterback, and the ‘Dores allowed a 75-yard touchdown drive in just a minute’s time to lose.

That ended any wild chance they have at a bowl, but there are still some chances for an upset this year. They get to host the erratic Mississippi State Bulldogs this week and then the Missouri Tigers next week. Closing out against the Kentucky Wildcats and then at the Ole Miss Rebels and Tennessee football will be tough, but these next two weeks should be interesting.
