Offensive grades part II

Wide receivers: A

Once again, Tennessee football’s wide receivers were key to Hendon Hooker’s success. Cedric Tillman had seven catches for 152 yards, Javonta Payton had two catches for 59 yards, Velus Jones Jr. had three catches for 18 yards, and Jalin Hyatt had three catches for 14 yards. Tillman had a 70-yard touchdown, Payton a 57-yard touchdown and Jones an eight-yard touchdown.

Tight ends: C-

Both Jacob Warren and Princeton Fant were solid blocking for the Vols, but they still continue to struggle getting involved in the passing attack. The tight ends really weren’t much of a factor in general, which is why this is just an average grade.

Offensive line: D-

Cade Mays being hurt and the unit being banged up in general excuses this, but we can’t ignore what happened. Hooker was sacked four times, and that was an improvement. The run game was atrocious. Most of the problem was on the interior, but the unit as a whole has some major issues. Getting healthy here is the main focus of the bye week.

Overall offensive grade: C+

The offense scored 21 points, all set up by big passing plays. We won’t give them credit for the field goal, as it was off a blocked punt, and they didn’t even get a first down on that drive. As a result, this unit was just average, but it was almost above average against an elite team.
