In the midst of a two-game losing streak and a nearly three-month drought when it comes to commitments, Tennessee football needed a bit of good news on the recruiting trail. The Vols got some just as the weekend came to an end.

UT is now in the top 12 for junior college defensive back Keionte Scott. A cornerback in the 2022 class out of Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, Scott is initially from Southern California just outside of San Diego. He is listed as a three-star on 247Sports but not yet rated on Rivals or ESPN.

Joining Tennessee football on Scott’s list are the Utah Utes, Cal Golden Bears, Stanford Cardinal, Auburn Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies, TCU Horned Frogs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Nebraska Cornhuskers and BYU Cougars. He announced the schools Sunday evening on Twitter.

The last commitment for Rocky Top’s 2022 class was wide receiver Charles Nimrod, who joined the class on Aug. 5. Currently, the Vols have 14 commitments. However, they don’t have any defensive backs in the class.

Although the future of the Vols’ secondary under Josh Heupel looks bright with guys like Kamal Hadden and Brandon Turnage, both Alontae Taylor and Kenneth George Jr. could be gone after this year. As a result, Heupel will need some immediate help at cornerback, which makes Scott a worthwhile prospect to target.

Given the fact that Scott will have four years to play his three years of eligibility at any school he commits to, he’ll also provide some long-term depth at cornerback despite him being a junior college transfer. That’s a huge benefit to whatever school lands him.

Currently, there are no predictions for where Scott will land on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. However, Tennessee football is a plurality favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, so the Vols definitely appear to be in the running beyond just making this list.
