Tennessee football slightly down again in Week 8 SEC Power Rankings
Last week: Defeated Tennessee Volunteers 52-24
Well, Alabama can still turn it on whenever they need to. Against Tennessee football, they won in a way they haven’t been winning all year. The Tide trailed at the end of the first quarter and only had a one-score lead in the fourth quarter before scoring 21 straight points to finish the game. They looked like they were in danger of a letdown and ended that in a matter of minutes.
Alabama has generally been beating teams by getting huge leads on them early. This was unique for them, as they had to pull away in the fourth. They did it, though, and Nick Saban’s team proved that it can overcome numerous mistakes and still not get distracted.
The Tide remain the second best team in our SEC Power Rankings. They still control their own destiny in the SEC West and in the race to reach the College Football Playoff. However, they also continue to have an issue when it comes to playing with fire and not staying forcused.
Saban’s got a bye to get his team to regroup on that front, and they only have one ranked foe the rest of the way. However, that foe is Auburn on the road at the end of the season, who is also in the race to win the West. Before that, though, they should easily get to 10-1 with LSU, New Mexico State and Arkansas all at home.
