Tennessee football slightly down again in Week 8 SEC Power Rankings
Last week: Did not play
We’re not even through October yet, and Georgia may be in line to clinch the SEC East this weekend. They can do that if they win and Kentucky loses. That’s insane to think about, but this may truly be the year Kirby Smart’s team gets over the hump.
Georgia’s key wins over the Clemson Tigers and Arkansas don’t look as impressive anymore, but their dominance over Auburn and Kentucky still look pretty good. They have earned their No. 1 ranking in both polls and in our SEC Power Rankings, the latter of which is a position they have held since that blowout win over Arkansas.
However, it all comes down to this week. Georgia has had many seasons ruined the past 20 years by Florida upsetting them. Don’t forget 2002. They were 8-0 and No. 5. Florida was 5-3 and coming off a bye, and the Gators pulled off the upset, potentially costing the Dawgs a BCS title berth. This is what UF has done to Georgia in the past.
Luckily for the Dawgs, they are coming off a bye this time as well. If they can avoid a slip-up Saturday, their November slate is against All unranked teams: Missouri, Tennessee football, the Charleston Southern Buccaneers and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Simply put, the whole season comes down to this game.
