Tennessee football slightly down again in Week 8 SEC Power Rankings
Last week: Lost to Texas A&M Aggies 44-14
We could switch out South Carolina and Missouri for this next to last spot in our SEC Power Rankings, but South Carolina losing by 30 points this past weekend, albeit against a very hot Texas A&M Aggies team, is enough for us to keep them here right now. Mizzou got the advantage and stayed where they are without playing.
That comes two weeks after getting blown out by Tennessee football and a week after barely beating Vanderbilt. Shane Beamer’s first team still can’t play offense well, and there are numerous defensive woes still causing problems now that didn’t exist under Will Muschamp.
To be fair, this team obviously was going to have a lot of growing to do, and its change in culture under a new head coach was naturally going to lead to snags like that. Looking at this year, though, it’s safe to say South Carolina is not a good team.
A bowl is still on the table, though. South Carolina gets a much-needed bye this week and then gets to host a struggling Florida Gators team. They still get that same Mizzou team later this year on the road, and the Clemson Tigers at the end of the year are also beatable. So don’t count this team out just yet.
