Tennessee football slightly down again in Week 8 SEC Power Rankings
Last week: Did not play
Sticking with this same tier of teams who suffered blowout losses to Tennessee football but at least look better than Vanderbilt right now, Missouri got a much-needed bye. The Tigers had a disappointing start to Eliah Drinkwitz’s second season and are now in danger of missing out on a bowl game despite expectations of taking a huge leap this season.
Losses to UT and the Boston College Eagles were not supposed to be in the cards this year. Heck, a loss to Kentucky also wasn’t supposed to happen, but that’s a lot more understandable right now given what Mark Stoops’ team has become.
Mizzou and South Carolina have been somewhat identical this year so far in that they have lost to almost the same teams, including Texas A&M from the West. The rush defense is a disaster for this team, and you have to wonder what impact the staff changes will have down the stretch.
Just like South Carolina, though, a bowl game is still in play. Coming off their bye, they have the chance to get back on track with what should be a win at Vanderbilt. They also still get South Carolina at home in November, and Florida at home and the Arkansas Razorbacks on the road are still games where they could pull off an upset, so don’t write them off yet.
