Last week: Lost to Alabama Crimson Tide 52-24

Two straight wins over Missouri and South Carolina had Tennessee football climbing into the middle tier of our SEC Power Rankings. However, the Vols have now slightly fallen back down again due to two straight losses to Ole Miss and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Now, they are just above one of the bottom two tiers.

Although Alabama and Ole Miss aren’t bad losses, the combination of that and the two SEC wins they have looking unimpressive is what brings them down. UT beat the second and third worst teams in our SEC Power Rankings, and one of them could be the worst.

Josh Heupel has still done a solid job as a first-year head coach, and his team has a lot of momentum heading into a much-needed bye week. They’ve been banged up for a while, so this is the perfect chance to get healthy.

After the bye, Tennessee football has a chance of pulling off an upset at Kentucky. They still have the Georgia Bulldogs, but a bowl is automatic with the South Alabama Jaguars and Vanderbilt to close out the season. The question now is if they could finish with a winning record. There are multiple chances to guarantee that once they get back on the field.
