Tennessee basketball 2021-2022 preview: Frontcourt
Incoming freshmen
Brandon Huntley-Hatfield
- 6’10” 246 pounds
- Five-star (247Sports, ESPN); Four-star (Rivals)
- Clarksville, Tenn.
Kennedy Chandler was initially the star of Tennessee basketball’s 2021 recruiting class, but then Brandon Huntley-Hatfield shocked the world by committing to the Vols back in April. That was a huge pickup for Rick Barnes.
Huntley-Hatfield was a unanimous five-star upon his commitment, and the move explained a wave of transfers that happened. He’s the perfect size to be able to play power forward or center in Barnes, so look for him to immediately become a regular contributor.
Jonas Aidoo
- 6’11” 234 pounds
- Five-star (Rivals); Four-star (247Sports, ESPN)
- Durham, N.C.
Initially committed to the Marquette Golden Eagles, Jonas Aidoo followed Justin Gainey to UT. He committed a day before Huntley-Hatfield and provides more depth and promise in the post as a true center. Like Huntley-Hatfield, Aidoo is probably going to make a major impact this year somewhere in the rotation.
Handje Tamba
- 6’11” 229 pounds
- Four-star (ESPN); Three-star (247Sports, Rivals)
- Knoxville, Tenn.
One of the last members of the Vols’ recruiting class, Handje Tamba is a three-star across the board and committed in July. He’s more of a project, but he definitely provides depth. Look for him to be somebody who turns into a star under Barnes in three years.
