Like nearly half the SEC, Tennessee football did not have a game this past weekend. So many teams being off was going to limit the amount of movement that could happen in our SEC Power Rankings. However, the games that did take place impacted a couple of teams dramatically, which we’re going to break down here.

There’s one team in the clear-cut top tier and one team in the clear-cut bottom tier. In between, we’ve got a next to bottom tier with two teams, and honestly, No. 14 to No. 9 is pretty obvious in terms of what the order should be.

The same holds true for No. 1 and No. 2, although the third and fourth teams are in the same tier as well. Simply put, the contenders and pretenders of the league are pretty obvious at this point as we get set for November ball. Let’s see where all of them, including Tennessee football, stand in our SEC Power Rankings following Week 9 of the 2021 season.

Previous: . Commodores . 14. team. 887. . 2-7 (0-5)

Last week: Lost to Missouri Tigers 37-28

It’s over for the Vanderbilt Commodores. Clark Lea was trying to score one upset win his first year as head coach of the program over a Power Five program, but his last three games against the South Carolina Gamecocks, Mississippi State and Missouri Tigers were his best chances. He lost all three because his defense fell apart in the fourth quarter against South Carolina and Mizzou.

Now, Vandy is officially going to have another losing season. That was always expected, but it’s also coming with likely no chance at a conference win. As a result, this team is last place in our SEC Power Rankings, and it’s not going to get any easier.

This team finally gets a much-needed bye week. Coming off that, we start looking at highly unlikely upsets they could find somewhere. Beating a reeling Kentucky Wildcats team at home is ever so slightly possible, but beating the Ole Miss Rebels or Tennessee football on the road likely isn’t. As a result, 2-10 is very likely now, and 3-9 is certainly best-case scenario.
