Tennessee football unchanged after bye in Week 9 SEC Power Rankings
Last week: Did not play
A much-needed bye week for Shane Beamer’s team comes with the chance to have a strong finish to his first year on the job. South Carolina struggled more with Vanderbilt than anybody else, and that alone is our reason for putting them next to last in our SEC Power Rankings. However, they are in a next to bottom tier with one other team.
South Carolina could make the case that they looked better in their loss to Tennessee football than the other team in this tier, but that was less recent than when either team played Vandy. As a result, we’re going by that right now.
Of course, both teams have a chance to move up in our power rankings as November play begins if they can score an upset, and there are some to take. South Carolina will have to find one if it’s going to make a bowl game.
The Florida Gators at home this weekend, as they are reeling, could be that upset. They could also upset the Clemson Tigers at home, who have struggled this year, at the end of the season. Their only sure loss left is at the Auburn Tigers. Reaching bowl eligibility requires winning one of those two games and then beating the other team in this tier. We go to them next.
