Last week: Lost to Georgia Bulldogs 34-7

Losing to Georgia wasn’t going to do much to Dan Mullen’s Florida Gators in our SEC Power Rankings. The disappointment with this team came long before that game. Everybody is getting blown out by UGA, though, and we all expected that from UF on Saturday based on where they already stood in these rankings.

However, they still had to drop one spot because of movement elsewhere, and that was their last opportunity to do something big for this season. With that loss, Florida’s chances at 10 wins or a New Year’s Six bowl game are gone. They’ve got nothing to play for. Of course, they still blew out Tennessee football, as they always do.

Mullen’s seat is now hotter than ever, and his task now has to be somehow keeping this program together through the offseason without losing tons of talent or having a depleted recruiting class. If he can do those things, this team should be much better next year, but it’ll be difficult.

A strong finish to the season is Florida’s best chance, and the good news for them is they should have that. Their final four games are visits to South Carolina and Missouri, the Samford Bulldogs in between and the Florida State Seminoles at home to close out the year. Win all four plus a bowl game, and they can stay above water, but they absolutely have to run the table.
