Fresh and well-rested off a much-needed bye, Tennessee football returns to the field this week to add another chapter to one of the oldest rivalries in the SEC. The Vols will travel to Kroger Field in Lexington, Ky. to take on the Kentucky Wildcats at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2 Saturday night.

At 4-4 and 2-3 in the SEC, UT is coming off of a two-game losing streak in which it suffered a heartbreaker to the Ole Miss Rebels and then a blowout at the Alabama Crimson Tide. It will be trying to end that streak while also avenging UK’s 34-7 win over them at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. last year.

However, Kentucky is also on a two-game losing streak. After a 6-0 start, they fell to the Georgia Bulldogs and then this past weekend to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 31-17, despite coming off a bye week. At 6-2 and 4-2 in the SEC, they are ranked No. 18 in the AP Poll and No. 17 in the Coaches Poll, but they’ll be playing to maintain their standing.

Tennessee Volunteers at Kentucky Wildcats Week 10 odds

On the WynnBET Week 10 betting odds, Kentucky is a 1.5-point favorite. The over/under is set at 57, and the moneyline is set at Kentucky -125 and Tennessee football at +105. This is the fourth time in five years Kentucky is a favorite in this game and the third straight time UK is a favorite at home in the series. However, UT is 2-2 since 2019 and lost the only time as a favorite, last year.

Tennessee Volunteers at Kentucky Wildcats prediction

Last year notwithstanding, conventional wisdom says UT is supposed to beat Kentucky. Heck, when they went 5-7 in 2018 with six losses by 25 or more points, they still beat a Kentucky team that was the best of the Mark Stoops era, going 10-3 and finishing No. 12 in the AP Poll and No. 11 in the Coaches Poll. The Vols won that game 24-7, dominating from start to finish.

Now, there is good reason to bet on Kentucky as well. While serving as the Missouri Tigers’ offensive coordinator, Josh Heupel went 0-2 against Stoops in 2016 and 2017. Both times, his offenses were held below their seasonal scoring averages.

On the other hand, this time, the Vols are the ones coming off a bye, and Kentucky is reeling. They could easily be 2-6 right now, having won four games by a touchdown or less, including one against the UT Chattanooga Mocs. After last week’s two-touchdown loss to MSU, you have to think their luck is running out.

Go with Tennessee football in this one. We’ve seen what Heupel’s offense can do fully healthy, and a lack of confidence is creeping into UK’s mind now. As a result, the Vols will pull off the upset and improve to 5-4 ahead of their matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs.

Next. Five things for Vols to focus on during bye. dark

Since they’ll control the tempo of the game off the bye, don’t just take Tennessee +1.5, but also take the Over 57. That one comes with much less confidence, so if you want to avoid a bet in the game, avoid the over/under, but definitely take the Vols on the spread and even straight-up. The score will look something like this: Tennessee 34 Kentucky 31.
