With every starter back, all but one player off the bench back and two newcomers, expectations are through the roof for the Tennessee Lady Vols in the backcourt heading into the 2021-2022 season. Having an All-American, a veteran guard and a player who was once a five-star recruit will do that for this unit.

Kellie Harper’s only major task is finding a way to replace the production left by Destiny Salary, who came off the bench to average 2 points and 2.4 rebounds in just over 12 minutes of play per game. Salary has since transferred to the Ole Miss Rebels. Still, Harper has plenty of talent back on Rocky Top, and it’s plenty of explosive talent too.

As we get set to take a look at the program’s guards, we’ll break down the newcomers, returning starters and returning backups all on separate slides before diving into our biggest questions and final take. Let’s get started with the newcomers in our preview for the 2021-2022 Tennessee Lady Vols’ backcourt.

Newcomers

Brooklynn Miles

  • 5’4″
  • Freshman
  • Frankfort, Ky.

Arguably the only true point guard in UT’s roster, Brooklynn Miles was the lowest-rated recruit in the Lady Vols’ 2021 recruiting class. ESPN gave her a three-star and just a 90 score. However, Miles’ position actually opens the door for her to see the court early, as point guard play had been an issue for Harper at times last year, so watch out.

Kaiya Wynn

  • 6’0″
  • Freshman
  • Richmond, Texas

A four-star with a 91 grade on ESPN, Kaiya Wynn is an elite athlete. As a result, she’ll bring top-notch defense to the Tennessee Lady Vols. However, she still has to develop some control, an issue plaguing other players. If she does and continues her currently developing outside shot, she could start within a year or two. This year, she could still provide solid depth.
