Tennessee Lady Vols 2021-2022 season preview: Backcourt
Final take
It’s hard to ignore how great the Tennessee Lady Vols should be in the backcourt this year. That part of the team returns almost all of the major players. One of those players just happens to be among the best players in the nation, and two others are seasoned veterans now who have a history of producing at this level.
Everything on the team will go through Rae Burrell, who is the star of the group. However, Jordan Horston should be an explosive combo guard, and Jordan Walker should help be the glue player. That three-headed monster makes up the main rotation in the backcourt.
With issues in the frontcourt, it’s likely all three of them start this year. Then comes the pressure of the backups. Kellie Harper needs Tess Darby and Jessie Rennie to become reliable role players, and the freshmen both have to be able to step up. At least five players here will be needed for Harper to be able to go two-deep at every position, and right now she only has three players.
If two more players among those five emerge, and if Walker and Horston improve their efficiency, the Tennessee Lady Vols could have the best backcourt in the nation. Burrell already has them close. Those other factors will determine everything else.
