Tennessee football at Kentucky: Five key Wildcats to watch

There’s a case for J.J. Weaver to be at the top of this list, but there’s also a case for him to be off the list entirely. Weaver either plays linebacker or opposite Josh Paschal on the line depending on when Kentucky is using three down linemen or four down linemen. However, he’s not even supposed to be the starter here.
The Wildcats’ depth chart still lists Jordan Wright as the main edge rusher. Wright has been banged up all year, though, and in his absence, Weaver has become Kentucky’s top playmaker. As a result, he has to make the list.
Weaver leads the team in sacks with four. Newsflash: Tennessee football has had a horrible time avoiding sacks this year. They are playing right into Weaver’s hands with that profile. However, Weaver is also the only player on UK to have forced two turnovers this season, as he has come away with an interception and a forced fumble.
Add in a six and a half total tackles for a loss and 26 overall tackles, 13 of which were solo, and Weaver can be the same threat Paschal is. The Vols will have to account for him just as much on the other side, leaving their hands full.
