Gambling odds according to WynnBET:

  • Line: Arkansas -4
  • Over/Under: 55.5
  • Moneyline: Arkansas -185; Mississippi State +165

Have the Mississippi State Bulldogs finally figured it out? They were inconsistent from week to week, a reason to be happy Tennessee football didn’t hire Mike Leach, but in their last three games, their only loss is to Alabama. Now they are No. 17 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings. Who could be ashamed of that?

Coming off a hugely impressive win over the Kentucky Wildcats, Mississippi State’s offense seems to have figured it out, and now they travel to Razorback Stadium to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks. It’s not crazy to think they could pull off another upset, at which point you’d have to put them in the top 25.

Arkansas, meanwhile, got a much-needed bye. Before the bye happened, they had suffered through a three-game losing streak, only snapped by a win over an FCS school, the Arkansas-Pine-Bluff Golden Lions. Sam Pittman is still a great coach, another one Tennessee football let slip away, but he now has to prove the start of the season wasn’t a fluke.

Prediction

I still believe in Mississippi State’s inconsistency, and I also believe in the benefits the rest from a bye week can do. As a result, I’m taking Arkansas to win and cover here, but I’m taking the under as well, as I’ve got MSU’s offense making too many mistakes.

Arkansas: 28 Mississippi State: 17 (Arkansas -4; Under 55.5)
