Tennessee football at Kentucky: Five last-minute predictions for Week 10 matchup
4. There will either be a blocked kick or a special teams touchdown.
Honestly, this somewhat favors Kentucky, as they have been a net benefit on big special teams plays. However, Tennessee football has had its share of big special teams plays as well, and when you take them together, something huge will happen in this game.
On the Vols’ side, they have blocked two punts on the year. Now, both of them came in losses to the Pittsburgh Panthers and Alabama Crimson Tide, but those losses kept them in those games until the fourth quarter, and they still had a chance to win late at PItt.
Kentucky, though, has a blocked field goal that they returned for a touchdown, which was the difference in their win over the Florida Gators. They also have a punt return for a touchdown, and the Vols have allowed a kickoff return for a touchdown this year. That means the flow of this season suggests at least one big play will happen for Kentucky.
If it doesn’t happen for Kentucky, though, it’ll happen for the Vols. Velus Jones Jr. had a kickoff return for a touchdown that was waived off due to a meaningless penalty, and he also had an elite punt return against the Ole Miss Rebels that should’ve set up the game-winning touchdown. As a result, there will be one big special teams play in a blocked kick or punt or a touchdown here.
