Offensive grades part II

Wide receivers: A+

JaVonta Payton took a screen pass 75 yards for a touchdown to open the game. Velus Jones Jr. had a 72-yard touchdown and 100 yards on the day. Cedric Tillman had 79 yards and a touchdown and an amazing sideline catch. Jalin Hyatt had a 41-yard catch that should’ve been a 70-yard touchdown, but he was ruled out. Yes, this unit was perfect. How can we not give it an A+?

Tight ends: B

Blocking was still a bit of an issue for the tight ends, a reason Tennessee football still allowed five sacks. However, Jacob Warren offset that a bit with his 18-yard touchdown. grab to tie the game up in the second quarter. Plays like that are enough to pus this unit’s grade to above average.

Offensive line: B+

Similar to the tight ends, allowing five sacks was a concern here. That’s the only reason this unit didn’t get an A. On the other side, they get a ton of credit for the play of the running backs. You can’t ignore what Jabari Small and Jaylen Wright were able to do with limited carries, and some of the responsibility for the sacks falls on Hendon Hooker, so this group still had a great performance.

Overall offensive grade: A-

Again, when you score 45 points against a defensive-minded team, you deserve credit. Okay, it was 38 points, as the defense had one of those touchdowns. Still, Tennessee football scored at will in this game. It moved the ball well and had nearly a complete performance.
