Sam Pittman and co. got back on track after the bye week. They cratered in our SEC Power Rankings with three straight losses to Georgia, Ole Miss and Auburn after a red-hot start that included wins over the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M, the latter of which looks like a better win everyday. However, now they’re on a two-game winning streak.

Sure, it started with a win over the Arkansas-Pine-Bluff Golden Lions. A bye followed that, but beating Mississippi State has to count for something. It’s a technicality, as MSU played better and got robbed in the game, but a win is a win, and that puts the Hogs here.

If not for that call, they may have fallen below Tennessee football, as it would be their fourth straight loss when playing an FBS opponent. Either way, Pittman’s work should still not be overlooked, and him getting this team to six wins his second year is extremely impressive given the disaster he inherited. Now the goal needs to be a top 25 finish.

Arkansas gets to visit LSU this week, and they host Missouri to close out the season. Those two should be wins, but you never know with LSU under Ed Orgeron and Arkansas-Missouri being a new rivalry. In between, though, they have a sure loss at Alabama, so for that strong statement we’re talking about, they need to win those other two games.
