Coming off a thrilling win to effectively guarantee themselves a bowl berth, Tennessee football is back at home for the first time in nearly a month. The Vols’ welcome home is a Saturday afternoon homecoming matchup against the best team in the nation.

Heading to Rocky Top is the No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs. UGA is coming off a 43-6 win over the Missouri Tigers and has arguably the greatest defense of all time in Kirby Smart’s sixth year on the job. They have also already clinched the SEC East.

On the other side, Tennessee football returns home after a thrilling 45-42 win at the Kentucky Wildcats, getting back above .500 and generating lots of momentum with its offense under first-year head coach Josh Heupel. Here is all the information you need for this game.

It’s the 51st meeting between the Vols and Georgia, with the Dawgs leading the series 25-23-2. If they win this matchup, they will have matched their longest winning streaks ever in the series at five straight games. That happened twice, from 2010 to 2014 and over five games played in a 15-year span from 1909 to 1924.

The last time Rocky Top beat Georgia was Smart’s first year. That was the Dobbsnail Boot game at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga., when Joshua Dobbs found Jauan Jennings for a 43-yard game-winning touchdown to win 34-31.

Since then, UGA has won every game by at least 23 points. However, one of those was against a program falling apart under Butch Jones, and the other three came against Jeremy Pruitt, who had a tendency of being blown out by every elite team.

This year, things are a lot more intriguing with the Vols’ up-tempo offense. It’ll be the fastest-pace offense Georgia’s historically great defense has seen all year, but UGA’s offense will be a huge talent for a UT defense that has struggled as well.

After this game, Tennessee football will host the South Alabama Jaguars and the Vanderbilt Commodores, which should get it to seven wins. UGA will host the Charleston Southern Buccaneers and visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, who are 3-6, so a win here should effectively guarantee an undefeated regular season for them.
