It’s pretty obvious to anybody who follows Tennessee football that the Vols have a major issue when it comes to taking care of the quarterback. In fact, they are tied for third from worst in the nation when it comes to preventing sacks, allowing just under four sacks a game.

Although South Alabama isn’t the best team at sacking the quarterback, it’s above average, generating nearly two and a half a game. More importantly, they have numerous players capable of getting to the quarterback, making it difficult for Josh Heupel and the offense to figure out where to focus their energy.

Linebacker C.J. Rias has three sacks on the year. Edge rusher Christian Bel has two and a half sacks and four tackles for a loss. However, Charles Coleman III is the guy the Vols will have to keep an eye out for the most. Part of that is that of the guys who accumulate sacks, he is the only one who is the full-time starter.

However, Coleman is also the top producer in that group as well. He has three sacks, just like Rias, to go along with four tackles for a loss and even a pass deflection. Okay, Rias does have an interception, but as has been mentioned, UT doesn’t throw them. As a result, Coleman is the key player here.
