Scouting Report. player. Defensive lineman. Redshirt freshman. Wy'Kevious Thomas. 3. Pick Analysis. 2117

6’2″ 305 pounds

Part of the reason Charles Coleman is such an elite producer is because of what Wy’Kevious Thomas is able to do on the inside at defensive tackle. The whole unit goes through him, and he’s a force who wreaks havoc on anybody in front of him.

Thomas doesn’t just free up Coleman on one side. He frees up Chris Henderson, who starts on the other side at defensive end. Playing in the middle with nose tackle Gi’Narious Johnson, it’s pretty obvious that those two guys are the ones who do all the dirty work. Thomas, though is able to wrack up production numbers along with it.

For the year, Thomas has five tackles for a loss and two sacks. He also has a fumble recovery to go along with 42 total tackles, 19 of which were solo. Putting up that level of production is incredibly impressive for a defensive tackle.

Jamall Hickbottom is a solid rotational defensive tackle with three tackles for a loss, two sacks and a forced fumble, but Thomas is the starter and the more consistent producer. As a result, he’s the guy in the middle that Tennessee football has to watch out for at all times. He’s getting better too as a redshirt freshman, so watch out.
