Tennessee football reaches top half of Week 12 SEC Power Rankings with South Alabama win
Last week: Defeated Prairie View A&M Panthers 52-3
To be fair to Jimbo Fisher’s team, the Texas A&M Aggies could have had a slip-up here. They were obviously going to be demoralized after their loss to Ole Miss, and the Prairie View A&M Panthers are first in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division. As a result, this could have been a dangerous game.
What may have worked in A&M’s favor, though, was the fact that the Panthers lost a heartbreaker the week before to the Alcorn State Braves. As a result, the pressure was back on them, as at the time, they may have been focused on the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils in the final week, a team they may have needed to beat to clinch the SWAC West.
An Alcorn State loss clinched them the West anyway, but they didn’t know that at the time. Anyway, back to A&M, blowing out that team wasn’t going to move them up in our SEC Power Rankings, and play by other teams forced them to drop a spot.
Fisher still has eight wins, but a loss this weekend to close out the season at home against LSU could even move teams like Tennessee football and Kentucky ahead of his team. As a result, even in a disappointing season, he needs this win for a strong finish, especially with the Texas Longhorns about to join the SEC.
