Tennessee football reaches top half of Week 12 SEC Power Rankings with South Alabama win
Last week: Lost to Missouri Tigers 24-23 (OT)
Talk about a program that has collapsed. Last year, the Florida Gators won the SEC East and played for a College Football Playoff berth. Early this year, they only lost by two points to the Alabama Crimson Tide. All signs pointed to them being a playoff or at least New Year’s Six contender again this year, especially when they beat Tennessee football 38-14.
Two months later, they became the second program to fire their head coach. Dan Mullen, who was supposed to be a home run hire four years ago, is out. Florida has lost four of its last five and hasn’t beaten an FBS team since beating Vandy in early October.
In fact, Vandy and Tennessee football are their only Power Five wins the past 10 games. The Vols would obviously love another crack at them right now. Anyway, they clearly belong next to last in our SEC Power Rankings with that resume.
Now, with Mullen gone, a bowl berth has to be the focus for this team. They have to do it against a Florida State Seminoles team that, despite a horrendous start, now has a bowl game to play for as well. That should make this Saturday’s matchup interesting, but if UF has any pride, they’ll make sure to win this game at home.
