Tennessee football reaches top half of Week 12 SEC Power Rankings with South Alabama win
Last week: Defeated New Mexico State Aggies 56-16
Well, they haven’t collapsed in November the way we all thought. Kentucky started 6-0 with a bunch of close wins and then suffered a three-game losing streak. One of those losses was to the Georgia Bulldogs, which is nothing to be ashamed of, but the other two were to the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Tennessee football.
At that point, the concern was that the bottom would fall out on this team, and their luck would run out. Well, Mark Stoops’ kids regrouped and took advantage of an easy schedule. They dominated Vanderbilt and then covered a really high spread against the New Mexico State Aggies this past weekend to clinch eight wins and get back into the top 25.
Before beating New Mexico State, Kentucky clinched the second-place finish in the SEC East. Depending on how things play out over the final couple weeks, there’s an off-chance that they are the team to reach a New Year’s Six bowl.
To do that, though, they will have to now get back to beating good teams. This week, they have a shot at nine wins with a trip to a solid Louisville Cardinals team. They have to win this in-state rival to have a chance at maybe a New Year’s Six bowl and assuring a top 25 finish.
