Tennessee football: Five key Vols to watch for vs. Vanderbilt
6’3″ 215 pounds
He made all those headlines hitting 200 yards against the Georgia Bulldogs, but Cedric Tillman didn’t let up last week for Tennessee football, reaching the 100-yard mark and scoring a touchdown again. With JaVonta Payton banged up, Josh Heupel has relied on Tillman a lot more as a key wideout, and he has lived up to the expectations.
Well, Vanderbilt has a major problem when it comes to guarding big receivers. They have allowed four players to have over 80 yards receiving in a game against them this year. Three had over 100 yards receiving, and one had 95 yards receiving.
Of those four guys, three are 6’3″ or above. Now, to be fair, two are tight ends in Trey McBride and Jaheim Bell. Also, Jahcour Pearson of the Ole Miss Rebels, the other receiver to go for over 100 yards, is 5’8″, so he doesn’t fit this profile.
That means that Velus Jones Jr., Princeton Fant and Jacob Warren all fit the profile of guys who could torch Vandy. However, Tillman is a hybrid of all of them, as he has shown all year, and he’ll likely cash in on that Saturday. Look for him to deliver another potentially historic performance.
