For the third time since Jim Harbaugh took over the Michigan Wolverines, this game has Big TRen Championship and College Football Playoff implications. The winner of this game wins the West and has a 100 percent chance of moving into the top four. Both teams got help last week too.
Michigan is currently No. 5 in the CFP rankings and No. 6 in the AP and Coaches Polls. They ironically got help from the Ohio State Buckeyes themselves, as they needed OSU to beat the Michigan State Spartans to put them back in control of their own destiny in the West. Now, all they have to do is end this eight-game losing streak in the series.
On the other side, Ohio State got help from the Utah Utes, who beat the Oregon Ducks. Two losses for Oregon ends any head-to-head argument they have over OSU. After blowing out Michigan State, they come into this game ranked No. 2 in the CFP and No. 3 in the AP and Coaches Polls. They also dominate Michigan the way Florida dominates Tennessee football.
Prediction
It didn’t feel right last year with this game not being played. This is the first time Michigan is playing OSU with CFP implications under Harbaugh at Michigan Stadium. Their other two losses were at OSU, just as their loss to MSU was earlier this year.
If this game were being played at 3:30 or 7 instead of noon, I’d be more sure of the upset, as snow is in the forecast and will slow OSU’s offense down. However, the cold weather and the beginning of flurries in the second half will do it, allowing Michigan’s defense to pull it off as the game also hits the under. Take them outright.
Michigan: 20 Ohio State: 17 (Michigan +8; Under 64.5)
