Three weeks ago, this looked like a game to determine the SEC West. The Auburn Tigers have won three of the past four at Jordan-Hare Stadium, and two of those games clinched the West for them. One of them was the last time they had a first-year head coach, Gus Malzahn in 2013.

However, now Auburn is on a three-game losing streak. They couldn’t hang with the Texas A&M Aggies, blew a 28-3 lead to Mississippi State and then suffered a bad upset loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks. Bryan Harsin has fallen behind Tennessee football coach Josh Heupel and S.C. head coach Shane Beamer as the first-year head coach who’s done the best job.

On the other side, Alabama keeps suffering scares. They only put Arkansas way by a touchdown, and they only beat the LSU Tigers by six points two weeks before that. This is why they fell behind Ohio State in the College Football Playoff rankings to No. 3 while staying at No. 2 in the AP and Coaches Poll. Nonetheless, they clinched the West and control their own destiny for a CFP spot.

Prediction

With the SEC title up next against Georgia and this game on the road, all signs point to Auburn putting up a fight. However, Alabama’s scare last week kicked them back into high gear. When they know to take a game seriously, they take it seriously.

Remember how the Tide blew out Tennessee football after suffering a fourth quarter scare? That’s what this team can do. As a result, they’ll dominate this one, even covering the spread. It hits the under because Auburn doesn’t score enough without Bo Nix.
