Last week: Defeated Vanderbilt Commodores 45-21

Kentucky proving they aren’t a fluke is a testament to what Tennessee football has done in recent weeks. In Josh Heupel’s first year on the job, the Vols have one bad loss, and it’s at Florida. Well, Florida is heading to a bowl game, and they were fully healthy when these two teams faced off, so there’s no shame in that game.

Three of the other four losses by UT are to teams currently in the top 10, three are to teams playing this weekend for conference championships, and two are to top 10 teams playing for conference championships who control their own destiny for the College Football Playoff. Simply put, this team should be proud of its 7-5 record.

To end the season, Tennessee football’s only losses were to Alabama and Georgia. Kentucky is a top 25 win on the road, and they made sure to run the table against their lesser opponents in the South Alabama Jaguars and Vanderbilt, blowing out both.

Given everything that was facing the program at the beginning of the year, Heupel pulled off nothing short of a miracle. He’s still got a lot of work to do to upgrade the program for the future, but there’s no doubt Tennessee football is peaking as the regular season ends.
