Tennessee football reaches its peak in SEC Power Rankings after 2021 regular season

Okay, so this isn’t the year that South Carolina was going to beat the Clemson Tigers. Shane Beamer did surpass Bryan Harsin in terms of first-year coaches who did the best job, but in reality, this South Carolina team was a bit overrated.

Remember, they beat Auburn without Bo Nix and with help from a bad call on a fumbled punt return at the end of the game. Meanwhile, they beat Florida while the program was reeling under Dan Mullen. Don’t forget that they lost to Missouri, and Tennessee football beat them in a blowout. This program took advantage of a weak SEC East.

As a result, they still belong in the bottom tier of our SEC Power Rankings. This list is back to doing tiers, and almost all 6-6 teams belong in the same tier. South Carolina losing to Clemson wasn’t necessarily going to hurt them, but upsets by other teams are what did the trick.

Now, Beamer has a chance to finish the season with a winning record. This team is at least going to a bowl game, and that will be a solid test for them and where they truly stand. Upsetting Florida and Auburn to get there, though, deserves some respect.
