Tennessee football reaches its peak in SEC Power Rankings after 2021 regular season
Last week: Defeated Texas A&M Aggies 27-24
Sticking with Texas A&M’s loss to LSU, let’s go to the other side of the coin. The Tigers sent Ed Orgeron out with a bang in his final regular season game, making sure they reached bowl eligibility and scoring a huge upset on Senior Day. Whatever else they have gone through recently, this was a great way for them to end a tough 2021 campaign.
Of course, there’s still a bowl game and the chance to finish above .500, but overall, this represented the end of an era. All the hype behind LSU now is the hire of Brian Kelly, who could create a dynasty there, but we’ll get to that later.
For now, this game was about reflecting on Orgeron’s legacy. It was enough to move LSU, despite being .500, into the top half of our SEC Power Rankings. Remember, they played the most brutal schedule of anybody this year and still scored some nice wins against Florida, Mississippi State and now Texas A&M.
The Tigers also lost to Alabama by one possession and took Arkansas to overtime. Simply put, they are better than this record indicates. As a result, they belong here, and regardless of how they struggled, they have a solid team.
