Last week: Defeated Louisville Cardinals 52-21

Remember when Kentucky had that three-game losing streak that resulted everybody thinking their 6-0 start was a fluke? Hey, it made sense, as they won four straight in that 6-0 start by a touchdown or less, including against the Chattanooga Mocs. After getting blown out by Georgia and Mississippi State and losing to Tennessee football, they were written off.

Sure, they rebounded against Vanderbilt and the New Mexico State Aggies, but those teams are awful. Facing the Louisville Cardinals on the road was going to be the way to prove if Mark Stoops’ team was still legitimate or just a fluke from that September play.

Well, we’ve got the answer. UK dominated in this game for the Governor’s Cup, establishing a level of state superiority that nobody expected. In the process, they did enough to move up in our SEC Power Rankings, and they are No. 25 in the AP Poll and No. 22 in the Coaches Poll.

Simply put, there’s no sense in writing this team off now. The only question is if it will lose Stoops to the Oklahoma Sooners, but it clinched a second-place finish in the SEC East and is walking away with another nine-win season. Stoops has this team in position for 10 wins again, the second time in four years, depending on their bowl game, a huge accomplishment.
