This site didn’t finish on the same high note Tennessee football did when it came to the regular season. It was a mixed bag, to be fair, as we head into conference championship weekend, but our spread picks got wrecked.

Week 13 performances (Click here to see last week’s picks)

  • Outright: 8-3
  • Moneyline: 7-3; $188.13 profit if $100 bet on every game (+18.8%)
  • Gambling record: 9-12-1 (3-7-1 against the spread; 6-5 over/under)

Accurately calling two upsets pushed the moneyline for the season into the profits. However, the gambling picks on the spread and over/under combined have fallen to 51.67 percent, nearly 0.8 percent short of the 54.2 percent needed to make a profit.

2021 overall performances

  • Outright: 101-35
  • Moneyline: 77-34; $97 profit if $100 bet on every game (+0.8%)
  • Gambling record: 124-116-4 (64-57-1 against the spread; 60-59-3 over/under)

Well, luckily there is conference championship week and then the bowl games to get this right. We’ll pick every game in the order that it’s scheduled to be played, and there’s no need to end with the Vols since they don’t play. Let’s dive in on all 10 games.

Alamodome; San Antonio, Texas

Gambling odds according to WynnBET:

  • Line: Western Kentucky -3
  • Over/Under: 73
  • Moneyline: Western Kentucky -150; UTSA +130

Up until last week, the Texas San Antonio Roadrunners were about to be one of those lesser teams who gripe about not getting a chance to play in the College Football Playoff despite being undefeated. A 45-23 loss to the North Texas Mean Green shut that down. It even knocked them out of the top 25 across the board.

Still, they get to play for the C-USA Championship as winners of the West. On the other side will be a Western Kentucky Hilltoppers team, whose head coach is former Vols offensive coordinator Tyson Helton, that is much better than the one that lost to UTSA by less than a touchdown earlier in the year. In fact, they’ve won every game since.

Prediction

Last week’s loss to North Texas was a fluke. UTSA had nothing extra to play for, and North Texas had a bowl in mind. Fully healthy, the Roadrunners will return to form. Jeff Traylor’s team beat WKU in Bowling Green, so they should win their conference championship in Texas. It’ll be a shootout, but this over/under is just too high, so slightly take the under.

UTSA: 38 Western Kentucky: 31 (UTSA +3; Under73)
