The first official road game and third game away from home for Tennessee basketball takes place Saturday afternoon. Rick Barnes’ Vols will travel out west to take on the Colorado Buffaloes to begin a two-game stretch against Power Five teams away from home.

UT comes into this game at 5-1, ranked No. 13 in the AP Poll and No. 15 in the Coaches Poll. In their most recent outing, they dominated the Presbyterian Blue Hose 86-44. Currently, they are on a three-game winning streak.

On the other side, Colorado comes in at 6-2 in its 12th year under head coach Tad Boyle. They are coming off a 12-point loss on the road against the UCLA Bruins. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee basketball’s matchup.

Gambling odds according to WynnBET:

  • Line: Tennessee -5.5
  • Over/Under: 137
  • Moneyline: Tennessee -240; Colorado +190

Despite their loss to UCLA and the fact that they suffered an upset loss to the Southern Illinois Salukis earlier this year, Colorado is still a dangerous team. Before losing to UCLA, which is a top five team, they did beat the Stanford Cardinal.

Boyle’s team only has two starters back, but the emergence of leading scorer Jabari Walker, who was a reserve last year, has helped him offset the losses. Last year, UT beat Colorado at home in what turned out to be its opener. Both teams made the NCAA Tournament.

Meanwhile, the Vols have been dealing with injuries in different spots since the season began. They were first without John Fulkerson due to a fractured finger, and they have played the past three games without Josiah-Jordan James, who has a torn ligament in his finger.

After this game, Rocky Top will head to New York to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. Colorado, meanwhile, will host the Eastern Washington Eagles Wednesday night.

Prediction

Although the Vols are due for a bad shooting afternoon, and although they are playing on the road in a tough climate in Colorado, they should be able to cover their spread. Colorado just doesn’t have enough of a combination of experience and talent to win.

This time, Tennessee basketball wins with defense. They won’t shoot the ball well, but they’ll force turnovers, and that’ll be enough for them to cover while the game hits the under. Take Tennessee -5.5 and the Under 137. The score will look something like this: Tennessee: 70 Colorado: 61.
