The future appears set at running back for Tennessee football with Jabari Small, Jaylen Wright and Len’Neth Whitehead. However, the Vols can always add depth there, and they are one step closer to doing just that with a 2022 prospect from Georgia.

Rocky Top is in the top two for Justin Williams. A four-star on Rivals and ESPN and a three-star on 247Sports, Williams committed to the West Virginia Mountaineers back in July but reopened his commitment in November.

Standing between 5’11” and 6’0″ and weighing in the range of 200 to 210 pounds, Williams has the Auburn Tigers on his list along with Tennessee football. He announced both schools with a graphic on Twitter Tuesday morning.

Although the Vols are deep at running back, they did just lose Tiyon Evans to the Louisville Cardinals via the transfer portal. Also, if Small has a successful campaign in 2022, he could leave early for the NFL. That’s entirely possible as he takes on more carries without Evans.

Also, UT was at its peak dating back to the early 1990s when it had a stable of backs ready to take over on a yearly basis. At one point they had James Stewart, Charlie Garner, Aaron Hayden and Mose Phillips. Later in the decade they had Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Travis Stephens and Shawn Bryson. In the 2000s, they had Arian Foster, Montario Hardesty and Lamarcus Coker.

Simply put, a deep collection of running backs has always been the best position for the Vols to be in. Right now, Dylan Sampson is their only commitment at that spot for 2022, so they could definitely use more help down the road.

Currently, Tennessee football is the majority favorite on the 247Sports Crystal Ball and the plurality favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. WVU is the majority favorite on the Rivals Future Cast and the No. 2 option on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but with them being eliminated from his list, UT is likely a heavier favorite now. That’s great news for them going forward.
