Tennessee football adds commitment from elite 2022 Georgia WR Kaleb Webb
Josh Heupel and Tennessee football continue to pick up steam on the recruiting trail. On Friday afternoon, the Vols secured the highest-rated commitment for their 2022 recruiting class since before the start of the season and their third recruit from Georgia within the past month.
Wide receiver Kaleb Webb out of Powder Springs, Ga., just outside of Atlanta, became Rocky Top’s 18th commitment, according to Ryan Callahan of GoVols247 and Austin Price of VolQuest. Webb is a four-star on Rivals and 247Sports and a three-star on ESPN.
Coming out of Cobb County’s McEachern High School, Webb stands between 6’2″ and 6’4″ and weighs in the range of 185 to 195 pounds. He is the fourth wide receiver commitment in Tennessee football’s class.
On Dec. 5, Webb decommitted from the East Carolina Pirates, where he had been verbally pledged to since the end of June. He took an official visit to Rocky Top last weekend and, according to reports, chose UT over the Michigan Wolverines and the Louisville Cardinals.
Given his size, Webb is a clear-cut wideout. The success of Cedric Tillman this past year had to have an impact on him, and it’s safe to say that’s going to be a crucial part of Heupel’s offense going forward. Webb could be a perfect fit for that.
There’s actually competition at wideout in the future now as well, as Charles Nimrod also comes in around 6’3″, and Tillman and Ramel Keyton could still be in the program for two more years. Webb could definitely fight for playing time, though. Here’s a look at his highlight reel.
As you can see, Webb is an amazing jump-ball receiver. His first touchdown on the highlight reel was a catch over three guys. That could be a huge advantage for UT. Of course, Webb showed speed by outrunning his defenders at times as well, so his potential is through the roof.
Thanks to a ton of skill players, Tennessee football is slowly rising up the recruiting rankings. The Vols were a top 20 class across the board before Webb’s commitment, and he will likely boost that. Heupel truly is starting to get his team together. The rest of the SEC had better watch out.
