While the home stretch for the 2022 recruiting class has arrived, Josh Heupel already has Tennessee football making a splash for 2023. The Vols have now secured their second commitment for that class, both of whom are from Georgia.

Tight end Ethan Davis, a four-star across the board out of Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Ga., which is just outside of Atlanta is heading to Rocky Top. Standing between 6’4″ and 6’5″, Davis weighs in the range of 210 to 225 pounds.

On every service, Davis is considered a top 10 player at his position. He follows Dacula, Ga. defensive back Jack Luttrell, who committed to UT back in August. The Gwinnett County prospect announced his commitment to Tennessee football Sunday afternoon on Twitter.

By 2023, it’s likely that Princeton Fant and Jacob Warren are both gone. As a result, tight end will be a position of need for the Vols, and Heupel struck gold by landing Davis. He’ll need more players there for depth, but this is a great start.

This could also be a sign that Heuel is about to build a lot of momentum for his 2023 class early on, particularly with offensive players, because of the success he and Alex Golesh had on that side of the ball their first year at UT. A few dominos could definitely start to fall.

In terms of fitting into Heupel’s system, Davis’ size suggest he is more of a receiving tight end, which adds a crucial element to Heupel’s attack. Fant and Warren have shown that this year. Here is a look at Davis’ highlight reel.

As you can see, Davis is great at out-jumping defensive backs to win 50-50 balls. His abilities are very similar to that of wideout Kaleb Webb, who committed to the Vols’ 2022 class on Friday. Both of these players could make for a dominant passing attack in the future.

Going forward, Tennessee football looks like it will be loaded with skill players on offense. Heupel’s reputation is starting to gain steam, and that could make the Vols one of the most fun teams to watch in the SEC in just a couple of years.
