Positives that were expected

No commitments flipped from the Vols.

Given what has happened in recent days, this was a concern for Tennessee football. Edge rusher Venson Sneed and tight end Brody Foley both left the Vols and committed to the Indiana Hoosiers. Those are losses we couldn’t overlook, and Josh Heupel has to deal with them.

However, after that, the only real concern for the Vols this week was wide receiver Marquarius White. A three-star across the board, White received a late push from the Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs. He shut down his recruitment Monday, though, and signed Wednesday. With that move, there was an expectation of no flips against UT, and no flips came.

Justin Williams commits and signs.

There was one story on the day we expected to be positive for the Vols that became positive, and it was this one. Justin Williams is a four-star running back on Rivals and ESPN but a three-star on 247Sports. Coming out of East Paulding High School in Dallas, Ga., Williams stands between 5’11” and 6’0″ and weighs in the range of 200 to 206 pounds.

All expectations were for Williams to commit, and he joins Dylan Sampson as the two commitments and signees in the Vols’ 2022 recruiting class. That adds to a stable of elite backs already with Tennessee football, which is a huge deal for Josh Heupel’s offense.
